A precocious and outspoken Iranian girl grows up during the Islamic Revolution..

Rebel without a cause (1955)

Drama USA.

Directed by: Nicholas Ray

A rebellious young man with a troubled past comes to a new town, finding friends and enemies. James Dean excels as the turbulent protagonist.

Blackmail (1929)

Crime Thriller, UK.

Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock

After killing a man in self-defence, a young woman is blackmailed by a witness to the killing. It's not the crime itself but the cover-up that entraps two lovers. Shot at the end of the silent era in the UK Hitchcock apparently concealed from his studio bosses that he was also shooting it partly with sound.

My brilliant career (1977)

Sybylla Melvyn is an independent young woman who soon after arriving to live with her Grandmother Bossier and Aunt Helen announces that she will never marry and plans on having a career instead

Ararat (2002)

War drama Canada.

Directed by: Atom Egoyan

Interrogated by a customs officer, a young man recounts how his life was changed during the making of a film about the Armenian genocide.

Benda Bilili (2010)

DramaMusic documentary; Republic of Congo

Directed by: Renauld Barret, Florent de la Tollaye

Summer 2009. Five paraplegics and a young able-bodied teenager light up the stage in front of an entranced audience of 8,000 people. 'Benda Bilili' - in English "See beyond" - is the name of this kinshasa band which has acquired a global following.

Paths of glory (1957)

War drama (B/W), USA

Directed by: Stanley Kubrick

After refusing to attack an enemy position, a general accuses the soldiers of cowardice and their commanding officer must defend them. Arguably Stanley Kubrick's first in what would be a long line of masterpieces.

The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974)

West Germany

A German masterpiece...

Jimmy's Hall (2014)

Drama UK

Directed by: Ken Loach

During the depression Jimmy Gralton returns home to Ireland after ten years of exile in America. Seeing the levels of poverty and oppression, the activist in him reawakens and he looks to re-open the dance hall that led to his deportation.

Tangerines (2013)

War drama; Georgia.

Directed by: Zaza Urushadze

War in Georgia, Apkhazeti region in 1990. An Estonian man Ivo has stayed behind to harvest his crops of tangerines. In a bloody conflict at his door, a wounded man is left behind, and ivo is forced to take him in.

Exit (2014)

Drama: Taiwan

Directed by: Hsiang Chenn

Featuring an award winning central performance by Chen Shiang-Chyi, the film focuses on a Taiwanese woman struggling with middle age and early-onset menopause, balancing her repressed desire against conforming to social expectations.
